Obituary

Malcolm was born and brought up in Jersey but came to Edghill in Lancashire to train as a teacher where he met and married Elizabeth, (Libby to all who know her), working his way up to Deputy Head at a local junior school.

Libby and Malcolm became involved with Ballooning through the Holker Hall group of enthusiasts and were founder members of the NWBAC, He quickly progressed from PPL to Instructor as our sport training became more structured.

He was a great instructor, his teacher training and calm temperament allowing hot heads like me to make our mistakes and then analyse them over a takeaway Chinese supper. He went on to train many NWBAC PUTs, making an enormous contribution to the success of the new club.

On the advent of commercial ballooning Malcolm took a career turn and went to work on the commercial circuit, flying everything from special shapes at home and abroad to taking the Lloyds balloon on the 'School' circuit, a task which suited him very well.

When the ballooning world was stopped in its tracks by the Foot & Mouth outbreak, Malcolm took yet another career turn and went driving all over the world with EMI - a Formula 1 logistics company, a job he thoroughly enjoyed and he was well thought of by all in that elitist of Motor Sports.

His mother passed away earlier this year and Malcolm who had been diagnosed recently with cancer died at the end of October

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Libby and Malcolm's father, Jim.

R.I.P. Malcolm.
