AGENDA
1. Apologies for absence.
2. Proposals;
PROPOSAL 1.
Clause 14 of the P.R.B.A. constitution states: "Only paid-up members of the BBAC shall be eligible to serve on the committee"
The committee would like to delete this clause to allow the P.R.B.A. members more freedom to appoint members to the committee.
PROPOSAL 2.
Following receipt of a letter to the P.R.B.A.’s 2024 Chairperson, Trudy Laws, from the North West Balloon and Airship Club’s Chairperson, Wendy Huntriss, regarding the possibility of an amalgamation of the two clubs, we would like members to consider the following.
Dear Fellow Aeronauts
Your committee has received a letter from our sister club across the Pennines suggesting that, looking forward to the rest of the 21st Century, would it be in the best interests of all lighter than air enthusiasts, situated between the Midlands and Scottish Borders, to have just one Ballooning
Association, to combine the human and financial assets available across the two clubs, to the benefit of all members.
For some years now our two clubs have been in close cooperation in training, social events and meets, we also share quite a number of members who belong to both associations. Since the pandemic there has been a change in the way our members and other hot air balloon pilots like to meet and communicate; email and virtual meetings by Zoom have greatly reduced the geographical
divide that the Pennines once were.
The letter we received does not have any time scale and of course any amalgamation would have to be agreed by the majority of members of both clubs, but your committee have agreed to ask our members if we should join with NWBAC in a dialogue to look at the pros and cons of a joint association and bring back any recommendations we feel may be of benefit to you, our members.
We appreciate that both clubs have a wonderful history going back some 50 years of service and innovation in our sport and do not in any way wish to diminish this record, in fact it must be preserved and lauded.
The committee would like to ask the membership to consider the above and respond with thoughts on whether an amalgamation of the two clubs is to be pursued, or not.
